Susan's Blog: Where Life Meets Art
Susan, here...I'm so excited to be this month's Guest Design Team Member! Before I share my first project with you, let me tell you a little bit about myself. I’m a wife of 17 years and mother to four amazing children. I have been an avid scrapbooker for more than 12 years now. I use scrapbooking as my main creative outlet and have recently started dabbling in mixed media projects. Three random facts about me: I have a soft spot in my heart for poodles. I love twizzlers - but only the original strawberry ones. & Fall is my favorite season.
This month, I'll be sharing items made with the Trio Kit. This kit has so many bright, happy colors that are perfect for just about any themed layout! I chose to scrap some photos that are about 12 years ago....right around the time I started scrapbooking! These photos are from the baby shower for my firstborn son. <3 I knew I wanted to use the sketch this month. I adore sketches! They are a great way to boost your creativity if you are feeling stuck or less than inspired! Many times my finished project looks almost nothing like my inspiration - but that's ok! That's part of the creative process.
These photos show me and my "adopted grandmother" Vivian. She and I were both volunteers, and we were assigned as partners. As a result, we became very close and it was like I gained another family member! She passed away a few years ago, and I still miss the chats that we'd have. Vivian was such a firecracker! She had an awesome laugh that was genuine and sincere. I loved how the one photo captured that laugh, so I had to include it! I wanted to use the arrow die cut, so I flipped the sketch to make the layout work with the direction of the printed element. The journaling is written on one of the white tags and hidden in the chevron envelope. The finishing touch was grabbing some sequins from my stash to add some sparkle to the page. I'll be back next Saturday to share another project with you! Have a great weekend!
